About us

Welthaus is a catholic organization in Graz (Austria), committed to development cooperation. We work for a sustainable society, where human dignity and justice play a central part.

Welthaus supports and accompanies projects in Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala, Laos, Senegal, Slovakia, Tanzania and Ukraine. The experience of our international project partners is also the basis for our educational work in the region. We organize workshops/lectures with invited speakers from the Global South facilitating mutual exchange of experiences in order to learn from each other. Our target groups are pupils aged 15 and older, university students, teachers and adults interested in development-related information.

We offer workshops, (teaching) materials, training courses and assistance on global topics in accordance with the principles of Global Learning. At the moment we provide workshops treating the effects of chocolate production, land grabbing, agro-fuels and the global food supply chain. Furthermore Welthaus Graz holds the regions largest media centre for Global Learning with a large stock of books, brochures, dvds, etc.

Welthaus Graz has projects and campaigns on international, national, and regional levels. In our work we co-operate with various organisations and institutions.

Our lobbying activities focus on food sovereignty worldwide and the right to land. For instance, we initiated a network of organisations to influence the European agrofuels policy. Furthermore, we engage in other networks and platforms working on issues related to the CAP and CAP reform. Additionally, we are active within umbrella organizations like AG Globale Verantwortung and the Koordinierungsstelle der Österreichischen Bischofskonferenz für internationale Entwicklung und Mission (KOO).
