Laos

All land in Laos officially belongs to the state, with the farming population holding a traditional right to use the community land. This also encompasses collectively used pastureland and forests. The lives of many people depend on harvesting fruits and raising livestock in the shared forests.

Welthaus helps inform people in the villages of Laos, in order to prevent them from overexploiting their land and to ensure that bamboo, mushrooms, medical herbs, and wildlife will still be accessible for future generations. Welthaus also supports projects which aim at informing the local population on their rights and obligations when it comes to land and its use.
