In Laos, all land belongs to the state. The farming population holds a traditional right to use the community land. This also encompasses collectively used pastureland and forests. In order to get enough food, many people depend on the fruit and the animals growing and living in the shared forests.
Welthaus helps inform people in the villages of Laos, so that they know not to overexploit their land and make sure that food like bamboo, mushrooms, medical herbs and wildlife will also be there for future generations. Welthaus also supports projects which aim at informing the local population about their rights and obligations when it comes to land and land use.
