Ukraine

The corona pandemic hit Ukraine in a difficult situation: the conflict over the breakaway autonomous republics of Donetsk and Luhansk has been smoldering for years. The country is in a serious political, economic and social crisis with high inflation and financial bottlenecks in all areas. Five million people are affected by the conflict. The almost two million internally displaced people can hardly be taken care of. Even without a pandemic, the health system is at its limit. The minimum wage of 100 to 150 euros is by no means sufficient to cover the necessary daily expenses.

The Corona crisis exacerbates the situation enormously: Food prices are rising, some basic foods are scarce, hospitals are overcrowded. Many people have lost their jobs. They have to do without government aid. In the city of Konotop in the north-east of the country, Welthaus supports a center that offers young people from socially disadvantaged families and refugees from the eastern Ukrainian crisis area help and prospects. In Ivano-Frankivsk, Welthaus supports children and young people from socially disadvantaged families – with educational and leisure activities, everyday help, psychological support and much more.
