Brazil

The prevailing economic model in Brazil promotes land concentration, privatizes water and increases deforestation and water pollution from agricultural toxins. Small farmers are driven from their land and people who stand up for them are persecuted – in the security of impunity. Land rights of village communities that have lived in the areas for generations are simply ignored by mining companies or large corporations, with the tacit consensus of the authorities.

Together with its project partners, Welthaus promotes agriculture that is adapted to the semi-arid climate and supports the farmers in defending their land rights. Only both together can sustainably secure the life and nutrition of the families who live here.
